I asked you guys what you want to see and read first –  Milan travel guide or Florence travel guide, and there was very little difference in the vote but Milan won. So here it is as promised – Milan through my eyes  and camera 🙂

Milan is  the biggest city in Northern Italy and one of the biggest in EU. It is situated very close to the border with Switzerland so if you have more time you can visit this beautiful country and enjoy its gorgeous landscapes. But lets get back to Milan shall we 🙂

Milan is one of the most famous cities in the world – it is well known as a global fashion capital – you can wander around all those fancy boutiques with exclusive collections. One of the events that brings thousands of people each year is the Milan Fashion Week. Of course this was exactly my first thought when my friend suggest to go to Milan.

When I visited Milan, I was inpatient to see The Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele – both well known as symbols of the city.

So we checked-in in our hotel and hit straight to the city centre. Milan has a great transportation system so you can get around easily.

We weren’t staying so far from the Duomo so we were walking to the city centre – first thing that got our attention was the most famous shopping area Quadrilatero della Moda –  shiny fancy and crazy expensive boutiques with  beautiful arranged windows. Great place to take some unique photos for the Insta 🙂 The streets leading to the city centre are also full of high end fashion stores where you can find everything you may need.

Tip: If your main interest is shopping you better plan your visit during periods of season discounts – usually – January – February and  July – August. Or visit some of the outlets out of the city centre where you can find some great deals.

And then I saw the Duomo…

That is the moment when I was speechless…

Tip: Go on the top of the Duomo or to some of the nearest coffee shops from where you will have an amazing view!

and of course the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele 🙂

If you don’t enjoy the crowded places, you  will like Navigli – a neighbourhood with tiny streets, water canals, picturesque spots and nice restaurants and cafes. Where you can enjoy tasty croissant and cappuccinos in the mornings or have an aperitivo after sunset.

Out of the most crowded areas is Parco Semipone where is situated The Castello Sforzesco. We visited this area on our second day in Milan. The castle was home of Sforza dynasty – who ruled Milan during the Renaissance. It is beautiful place and it houses 12 museums – Musei d’Arte Antica, Museo dei Mobile, Pinacoteca and others.

Tip: Free entry for Castello Sforzesco is offered from 2pm every Tuesday and for the last hour of every day. And also every first Sunday of each month you can visit other museums for free – Museo del Novecento, Sforza Castle museums, Galleria d’Arte Moderna, Casa Museo Boschi di Stefano, MUDEC.

Other must-visit place in Milan is the Santa Maria delle Grazie church where you can admire Leondardo da Vinci`s masterpiece – The Last Supper. I left this one for my next trip to Milan, since you have to book your ticket in advance.

P.S: Have you been in Milan?
